INTRODUCTION

The Yorke Peninsula Tourism Awards aims to recognise and promote excellence in tourism.

The Awards support improved business planning, development and internal analysis of tourism businesses as well as celebrate the creativity, professionalism and innovation of the region's tourism industry.

The Awards are an online submission and site visit (where applicable) based competition for all tourism businesses and industry suppliers based on the Yorke Peninsula.

Tourist Attraction

Wheal Hughes Copper Mine

Wheal Hughes Copper Mine is an underground modern tourist mine. Tourists become miners for the one and a half hour tour, wearing hard hats, cap lamps and boots. This is a unique opportunity to experience the sights, sounds and smells of an underground mine and to understand what it is like to be an underground miner.

Kernewek Lowender - Copper Coast Cornish Festival

The Kernewek Lowender is held in the historic copper mining towns of Kadina, Moonta and Wallaroo. The festival is packed with a variety of traditional Cornish activities and other festival like events. Visitors can expect to experience Furry Dancing, Heritage Services, art, music, craft, formal dinners, Swanky, Cornish Pasties, live entertainment and much more.

Aboriginal Cultural Tours

From living in poverty to nationally accredited, Aboriginal Cultural Tours is a South Australian Aboriginal Tourism multi-award winner. Looking at the landscape through Aboriginal eyes gives guests a completely different perspective of the land. The guides share significant Dreaming stories and cultural sites of their country.

Minlaton Chocolaterie

Minlaton Chocolaterie opened in June 2009 and is a very welcome addition to the town of Minlaton. The boutique style store offers fresh, tasty chocolates made in the region. Many of the ingredients used in the chocolates are grown, harvested and processed in the region

Yorke Peninsula Visitor Information Centre, Minlaton

Yorke Peninsula Visitor Information Centre is a fantastic combination of visitor information and beautiful hand made creations. Facilities include: a comprehensive range of visitor information; Internet access; souvenirs & postcards; tearooms & home baked goodies; gallery & quality locally made crafts.

 

 


Fishing Charter, Tour and/or Transport Operators

Mad Keen Fishin Charters

Based out of Wallaroo, Yorke Peninsula, running two fishing vessels, Mad Keen Fishing Charters offer fully inclusive packages and operate with a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 28 people. Their aim is to maximize their customers fishing experience offering every opportunity to “land the fish of your dreams”.

Richard Davis

Congratulations to Richard Davis who won the prestigious Harry Dowling Award for an Outstanding Contribution by an Individual to the South Australian regional tourism industry. Richard’s passion and commitment to regional tourism spans nearly 40 years and he works at a national, state and regional level. He contributes significant personal time to the industry and is involved in more than 8 different boards and committees. Some for over 30 years - which is truly amazing!
