![]() The tourism industry is forecast to experience continued strong growth in the years to come. To support the industry's success, and facilitate this projected growth, industry must work together to ensure we have access to suitable skilled labour. Appropriately skilled, quality personnel are integral to the success of business in any industry, and can provide a competitive advantage. Customers already expect high level service from our businesses. This means that industry must find innovative and flexible ways to manage our existing and future staff. It will require looking beyond traditional methods and sources to attract and retain staff.
The SA Tourism Workforce Development Strategy identifies the industry’s key objectives for the next six years within the broader context of South Australia’s competitive performance and the likely future of tourism, both nationally and globally. The Tourism & Hospitality Workforce Development Strategy focuses on creating a highly skilled workforce, access to quality employment, shaping the future through better workforce planning and expanding the traditional workforce. The Food, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Advisory Council SA Inc is one of nine Industry Skills Boards which were established by the South Australian Government to identify current and emerging skills and workforce development needs within each of their industry sectors. Food, Tourism and Hospitality Workforce Planning Guide - A basic handbook for business owners and operators in the Food, Tourism and Hospitality industries. Food Tourism and Hospitality Workforce Planning Checklist - A tool for small to medium-sized employers in the Food, Tourism and Hospitality industries to help them tackle workforce planning in a practical and logical way. Tourism & Hospitality Career Guide - A "how-to" guide for new and existing employees to map a career pathway in the Tourism & Hospitality industry. The South Australian Government's Workforce Information Service website contains a section dedicated as a Workforce Development Showcase. The showcase offers a variety of tips and tools across six themes: Current and Future Workforce Issues and Planning; Attraction and retention of Workers; Upskilling Existing Workers; Skills Recognition; Training Linkages and Methodologies; and Career Development. The Employer Resource Kit provides a flexible set of tools to help business to recruit, develop, retain and manage their most valuable asset – people. The toolkit comprises checklists, fact sheets, a workforce planning guide, web resources, templates and an example case study, which will provide an insight into the planning required to ensure business is ready to address future staffing needs. This toolkit aims to provide guidance to assist business in building and retaining a workforce to grow your business and contribute to a successful future for the South Australian economy.
